Edith Lura Maxwell

Yesterday I spoke with Orion Morgan McLain, Jr., Edith Maxwell's son. Through him I was able to get Edith's full name, birth and death date, husbands, children, etc. Orion also told me how Della, Edith's mother, died, at the young age of 40. She was a victim of the 1918 flu epidemic. She was in Haskell with Edith, then about 16. Her husband, Joseph Henry was with his brother Claude Maxwell in Ranger, working as a carpenter. Claude was a builder and Ranger was going through a boom. It was difficult getting word to Joseph that Della was sick. He made it home just before she died, but she was out of it and couldn't communicate well with Joseph. He told his grandson that he regretted missing her his entire life.

Orion and his wife Nannie enjoyed western dancing. Orion is slowing down, but Nannie is still going strong. Nannie is a cousin to Orion's brother Bobby Joe's wife Mary Geneva Patterson.
