The Marriage Certificate of
Daniel Stewart and Araminta D. Coleman,
and the Record of Their Marriage in Fayette County, Georgia

The City of Fayetteville was incorporated and made county seat of Fayette County on December 20, 1823. It was named in honor of the Marquis de Lafayette of France who fought against England in the American Revolution. The city's courthouse, built in 1825, is the oldest in Georgia and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

To any minister of the Gospel, Judge, Justice of the Inferior Court or Justice of the Peace. You are hereby authorised to join Daniel Stewart & Miss Armenta D. Coleman in the holy state of Matrimony according to the Constitution & laws of this State & for so doing this shall be your sufficient License given under my hand & seal this 21st day of June 1836.
