The Photo at the Top of the Page
Marvin Stewart, the step-grandson of Mollie England, identifies this photo as the England family. This type of cabin is known as a dog trot cabin.
A History of the Dog Trot Cabin The corral around the house was to keep the animals away from the house, and not as I originally thought, to keep them in. The animals usually roamed the nearby woods, until neighbors got too close and your animals needed to be separated from theirs.
Mollie ENGLAND STEWART, unknown boy, Mattie ENGLAND YOUNG, Mississippi, circa 1900
