o John McCallon > Mary Margaret McCallono Elijah Farmer
Elijah FARMER CHILDREN
The first census we find for Elijah and Mary A. Farmer is in Rhea County TN in 1850. Living with them is Hettie A., 7; James W., 5; John F., 2; Sarah J. Mitchell, 26, TN; and Maranda Thompson, age unknown, of TN. I suspect that Sarah J. is Mary's sister and Maranda Thompson is their mother, though I cannot verify this. Next door, in Meigs County TN, lives Thomas S. Farmer, 25, and his wife Ellen Jane, 24. Their children are John M., 6; Newton R., 5; Mary A., 3; Sarah Jane, 1., and James Majors, 23. A subsequent census suggests that Thomas E. is Elijah's brother. Elijah and his family are in Newton County MO, in 1860. Their children are Hettie A., 17; James, 15; Eliza, 9; and Emily, 2. Next door is the widowed Ellen J. Farmer and her children, John D., 17; Newton, 15; Mary, 12; Sarah, 9; William, 7; and Thomas, 5. In 1870, Elijah and his family are in Pleasant Hill, Cass County MO. Elijah is running boarding house. Their children are listed as: Ettie A., 24; James W., 22; Eliza J., 19; Emily M., 11; Price L, 8; Ellen M., 6. In 1880, Elijah and Mary live next door to the James H. and Amanda Lavina Maxwell family. James W. Farmer is the head of the family, married to Sarah M. [Maxwell]. Living with them is Elijah, 63, father; Mary M., 56, mother; Price D., 18, brother; and Emily M., 22, sister. In this census, both Elijah's and Mary's parents are listed as born in Ireland. UPDATES:
