In the 1920 Haskell County Census a Mrs. J.L. Clark, 30, the daughter of James H. Brawner is living with the family along with her two children Lois, 10, and John Lee, 7.

James and Mackie had nine children, seven were living in 1910. I was told by Orion Morgan McLain, Jr. that the younger Jimmie lost an arm in a cotton gin. On the 1930 census, after the Brawner's moved to Haskell, James was listed as a scavenger for the city.

James Homer Brawner is the son of John Brawner and Sarah Jane Rodgers, both born in TN. Makie Katherine Bartlett is the daughter of James Bartlett and Malinda Wesley, both born in GA.

Tom Hill married Amanda E. Brawner, John and Sarah Jane's daughter. Because David is a cousin we know that John's father is a brother to David's father Jesse Brawner. Jesse's father is listed in Ancestry.com's One World as William Brawner (1740-1840). His wife was Elizabeth Stadler (1781-1850). John's father is one of William's other sons: Bazil H. or Lewis Brawner (twins - 1803), William Brawner (1810), or Farmer Brawner (1815). Bazil H. has a son named John, John's age in Polk County TN, where our John was born.

According to Marriage Book #7 (partial), Marshall, Alabama, the following marriages took place:

#114-125 James T. HILL to Amanda E. BRAWNER on December 9, 1881, by Rev. Isaac G. Gross at the bride's father's. Bond: James T. Hill and John Brawner.

#117-128 James H. BRAWNER to Hattie BARTLETT on December 8, 1881, by Rev. Isaac G. Gross at the bride's father's. Bond: James H. Brawner and James T. Hill.

"Hattie" may be either a mistake, or a nickname, for Mackie Catherine Bartlett, whom James H. Brawner married. Note that the two siblings were married one day apart.
