Robert Rabe's first wife was Mary Stockton, Wilson Stockton's eldest sister. Wilson Stockton married Araminta Emma Stewart. According to Reuben's grand-daughter LaDella, Reuben spoke of his half-sister Mary Elizabeth, the daughter of Robert Rabe and Mary Stockton, who married a Jones.

Mary E. is Mary Ellen or Mary Elizabeth, the daughter of Robert Rabe's first wife Mary H. Stockton, born in Mississippi. Lucy's son Reuben is listed in the 1900 Eastland County census living 2 doors down from his uncle, Joseph Coleman Stewart. "J.D." is probably A. Dona. The family Bible, which is nearly illegible for "L.C. Stewart's" marriage listing appears to list a marriage to Robert Rabe in 1871 in Hopkins County. |
1900 Erath County, TX Census, 6 JUN 1900
The widowed (1885) Lucy C. "Rube" (mispelled in transcription) lives with her children. A 14-year-old grandson, Lewis W., b. FEB 1886 is listed. Perhaps he was with her to help. In the 1930 census a W. Lewis Rabe of the same age is listed as an employee at the Rusk State Hospital for the Insane. His wife Zoe R. is with him. Lucy is living next door to her married daughter A. Donna [Rabe] Williams.
1910 Hobbs, Fisher County, TX Census, 11 MAY 1910
lists an "L.C. Rabe" F head of house, widowed. She has with her her daughter Edna, 24. Edna is a public school teacher. L.C. and Edna live next door to H.A. and Lucy Farmer, Lucy Rabe's daughter and son-in-law. L.C.'s place of birth is mistakenly listed as Tennessee.
1920 Hopkins County TX Census
Lucy is listed as "Lucy C.," 73, living with Mary Gertrude's son Franklin P. Knight and her daughter Katie B., and their daughter Alline.
Walter Lewis Rabe - highighted
1895 top row: Mary Elizabeth (Lizzie), Carrie, Theodocio (Docie) and
Robert Marshall (Bob).
middle row: Fannie LouEllen, James Benjamin (Jim), Martha Jane, Walter Lewis.
bottom: Frank Victor and Richard Homer (Dick). James Benjamin & Martha Jane Sanders Rabe were married June 7, 1872 in Erath Co., TX
I found Lucy's death date in the Tapp Funeral Home records at the Hopkins County Historical Society. Frank Knight ordered her service. Her death certificate states that she died in Brashear, a widow of 76 years, with a father named Stuart. It's hard to make out what she died of, it looks like it might say, "porely fed," which would be a very sad end to her life.
* From LaDella Rabe Jones, Summer 2006. She also told me that her grandfather, Reuben Rabe, told her "there was a duke in the family when they came over from Scotland or England." TSS
