odra and maud
This photo is taken at the same sitting as the one above, but in this one, Maud is smiling. Someone told me the baby is Odra, but I'm certain it's Maud's niece, Viola (photo below). Someone is holding the baby's arm, and it's intriguing to wonder who they were and why they were cut out of this little picture. It's nice to see someone smiling, even as blurred as this photo is, as people so seldom smiled in portraits during this time.

Note how Maud's stature reflects the portrait above, taken decades before.

See photos of Maud when she was much younger, with her niece Abbie Thompson.

Maud was active in her church
"The city's close relationship with its various churches is reflected in the method Tullos Drugstore used to increase staffing during the Christmas rush. Tullos invited churches to provide a young lady to work in the drugstore one week. In addition to paying the individul for her work, he donated 10% of her cash sales to her church. Loveie Swadley represented the Methodist Church in 1910. When Maud Stewart and Lula Holmes worked the following year, Maud earned $18 for herself and $22.75 for the church and Lula earned $18 for herself and $17.19 for the church."
