According to the family history of the John Marion Maxwell family, Alexander Williams is the son of Thomas N. Williams, and brother to John Henry Williams. Some speculate that Alexander and Sarah were brother and sister, but I suspect that they were cousins. In the 1850 Benton County Census Alexander and Sarah live next to Ambrose Williams and Samuel Williams, his father. My hunch is that Sarah is the daughter of Samuel and sister to Ambrose. Alexander and Sarah named a son Ambrose, which, since he is not directly related to Alexander, must be a close relation, such as brother, to Sarah. They also named a daughter Clarisa, the name of Ambrose's wife.

This information confirms the tie between the various Maxwell and Williams families.

Sarah Williams was widowed before the 1860. On the 1860 Apple Orchard, Colville, Benton County Arkansas Census she is listed as a willow farmer. In front of her name is listed the J.P. Maxwell family, and after her is listed J.P.'s son James Harvey Maxwell with his 17-year-old bride Amanda Lavina. Sarah's other children include Francis, Clarisa, Mary, and Rebecca. We have been able to follow Francis, Mary, and Amanda to Texas.

In the 1870 Bentonville, Osage, Benton County Arkansas Census, F.M. Williams is living with his two sisters, Mary and Rebecca, next door to his eldest sister Amanda and her husband James Maxwell.

It's unclear whether or not Francis Marion Williams ever married. He managed to elude the censuses. What we know of him is through family letters. There is an F.M. Williams buried next to Emma May Maxwell in the Willow Cemetery. May Maxwell was his niece and the dates correspond to the rough dates we have of his life. According to a letter from his sister Mary T. Guest, F.M. was a farmer in Goodwell, Texas County OK, selling his property around 1907.

I was able to trace Mary T. Williams Guest due to a note scribbled on the back of an envelope by Mary's niece, Edith Lura McLain. She wrote "Mary T. (Williams) Guest." Because of that short note I was able to find her married to Joseph Jefferson Guest. They had four sons and one daughter. Each of their sons became either a doctor or a dentist.

Mary T. and J.J. Guest live in Haskell County in 1910. One door away lives T.J. Lemmons and his wife Sarah. Marion Williams, 58, is boarding with them. He's listed as coming from AR TN TN, with his own income. Mary's death certificate names Alec Williams as her father and Sarah Williams as her mother, with places of birth unknown. Mary's daughter, Mrs. Ivy Bryant, was the informant, signing the certificate. Mary died of a heart blockage.
