Two Hundred Years of Our American Families
GENEALOGICAL RESOURCES
FamilySearch.com, the FREE genealogical resources of the Church of the Latter Day Saints (Mormons), mostly taken from the 1880 Census. The search uses Soundex so is useful for screening for names to use in more exacting programs such as HeritageQuest.
Ancestry.com
If you're going to seriously do genealogy, you need to get a membership here. You can try it out for one month, though I buy the basic year at a time. Their databases are unparalleled, and they are always improving, and adding more.
GenForum Message Boards @ Genealogy.com, I use this mostly for the message boards. I've had some successes in connecting with distant cousins with whom I was able to exchange photographs and information.
Rootsweb.com, message boards, regional records, and all kinds of useful resources.
HeritageQuest, check *FIRST* with your local library. Some states and counties provide their invaluable records free to members.
MyFamily.com, create your own private family website, host family trees, photos, etc.
